The Gift

Morning my Lovelies.  Hope you are making yourselves a very special day.

Had a beautifully touching surprise this evening.  I was sitting in the living room when Reyes came to the door.  Reyes has been with me for a long time now, and really, I don't know what I would have done without him.  He hauled and hung my paintings for shows, hung paintings, curtains etc. in my house ... just about anything I was not able to do, Reyes did it.  He also cared lovingly for my garden. kept the bird baths clean, the water in the fountain changed ... etc. etc.  My right hand man.

So when I looked up from my chair, Reyes was at the door carrying a beautiful basket full of goodies.  A good bye present.  I melted.  Luckily a friend was here and able to take a photo of the two of us.
a beautiful hand woven basked full of fruit ...

A traditional clay cooking pot - good for absolutely everything .....

open fires, BBQ's, stoves, ovens .. you name it.  I adore these traditional pots and have several.  This will be a very special one to add to my collection.

Two CD's of Spanish music ...

... and a beautiful hand woven tortilla basket - totally insulated on the inside to keep the tortillas warm.

I can't tell you how heart wrenching it is to leave this place.  My little paradise.  I don't really think I realized how deep my roots have grown here.  Each of these items will hold special meaning in my new home.

That's it for today.  Thanks for stopping by.  Each moment is so precious .. enjoy it and hold it dear.

This and That

Good morning my Lovelies.  How is your world today?

My world is steadily getting better.  A good thing, considering I have to travel in a week.  Tummy still not quite right and I may call the Dr. one more time just to make sure.  Couldn't get on a plane at the moment ... so my body needs a little 'tweaking'.

Not much new as I've been sticking pretty close to home.  Had to change shippers, for reasons I will not get into here.  It was stressful, however, everything is back in place and all will be well.

There is a cactus in front of the house across from me.  I absolutely adore it, however had decided there is no way I could possibly take the prickly beast with me - so photos are the next best thing.  It is so tall and strong -- just love it.

Isn't is Gorgeous!

My two new shippers, who took all the stress away yesterday, are lovely.  After spending an entire day with them, I believe they are simply good souls.  I don't know how else to put it.  It puts my faith back in humanity.

Just another photo I took before I got sick.  I'm always amazed at the beauty and the celebration of life that exists in Mexico.

That's all for today.  Thanks so much for stopping by.  I enjoy your comments.  Sorry I haven't been around to visit -- I will be there soon.  Take care of each other and enjoy the moment.

Just for the record ....

Hello my lovelies.  Hope all is well with you.

Didn't know whether to post this or not, however, when I look back on my blog, it's always good to know what was happening in my life.

SO ..... I have typhoid.  Sick as a dog.  I think I ate some bad food last Thursday ... came down with a bad fever on Thursday night.

It's fairly maddening!  Have had the Dr. here every day giving me shots etc.  However, the saddest thing is I'm missing all the fun.  Tonight is a special concert by Michael Hoppe for the Children's Art Foundation.  We had planned to attend and have dinner afterward.  Tomorrow another dinner out with friends, Friday a lunch with friends, Saturday a good bye dinner at my favorite restaurant, Don Felix, .... and so it goes.  I am missing everything.

Not sure what the purpose of this universal gift is.  Who knows.  Perhaps I will never know.  At the moment I am simply trying to heal enough to get home.

So that's the news from San Miguel.  It's a beautiful sunny day - perhaps I will sit out for a little while.  Lupe is here cleaning the house, Ruben has gone to get me soup, the bank is delivering money ... what more can I ask.  lol

Take care ... enjoy the moment.

Keep forgetting my Camera!

Hello my Lovelies.  Nice to see you here.

For whatever reason, during these last precious days in SMA, I keep forgetting to use my camera!  Silly me.

The day after closing I woke up feeling dreadful, and it got worse.  By night time I had a high fever and felt I didn't want to stay alone.  Have to be feeling pretty rotten to to want someone with me.  So .... I called one of my Mexican Family, Lizette, and she came over and stayed the night which was very comforting.  In the morning, she cooked a lovely breakfast, bacon, eggs, fruit, fresh juice.  I managed some dry toast.  HA!  Thought I was feeling better today, however now I am experiencing a return of the symptoms - although in a very mild way - so I think I'm on the mend.

Today, Karina came and gave me a mani/pedi.  I must say, I shall miss people coming to the house.  It's so very convenient.  Karina also cuts my hair.

This afternoon, Kathleen and Ivan arrived.  I had made guacamole which we enjoyed then ordered a vege pizza which was delicious.  Along with some champagne, red wine and company from the neighbours a lovely afternoon was had by all.
Thanks for dropping by.  Hope your days a long and pleasant.

The Closing

Hello my Lovelies.  It's another beautiful day in San Miguel.  Hope you are enjoying some spring weather where you are.

I forgot my camera yesterday, so I have no record of the closing.  All went without a hitch ... so the deal is done.

The gentleman who purchased my house is lovely.  He is so happy, he's actually walking about two inches off the floor.  I received a huge hug with the words "Thank you for building that house ... I will be so happy there.  It is perfect".  Doesn't get much better than that does it.

So I am channeling my mind into forward gear.  Ready to enjoy my last days in San Miguel, and looking forward to fixing up my place in Canada.  Life marches on, and there are always new beginnings and new chapters to look forward to.

Thanks for dropping by.  Take care, and enjoy the moment.

Saying Goodbye

Hello my Lovelies.  I know it's been a few days since I posted.  Busy, Busy, Busy.  Everything is done at Quinta de la Luz, the Closing is tomorrow morning .. so wish me luck.

It's not easy saying goodbye to a place I have loved as much as I have coveted Quinta de la Luz.  I think designing and building something from the ground up makes a difference .. not sure.  Not only am I leaving my home, I am leaving my beloved Mexico.  A place I have fallen deeply in love with.

Closing is tomorrow morning ... here's hoping all goes well and it will be finished.  I can relax.

Thanks for dropping by.  Always a pleasure to read your comments.

I'll cut the hearts from pharoahs
I pull the road off of the rise
tear the memories from my eyes
and in the morning I'll be gone

Packing up Quinta de la Luz ...

Hello my Lovelies.  Hope you are making yourselves a wonderful day.

One moment at a time.  I keep reminding myself, however for whatever reason I am truly stressed.  Packing began today, along with some unexpected complications with the closing.  Closing now will probably be about three days late.

Had no choice but to go out this morning and when I got home, the bodegas were packed and most of the main floor.  A few complications there as well -- however I simply can't concern myself with them.  What is is, and that's the end of it.

So my beautiful little house is beginning to look like this:

To decompress, Pat and I went out for dinner.  I adore this photo.  Suddenly she had no idea why she ordered a beer and a milk shake at the same time.  It hit her very funny.

Tomorrow morning, I will be moving to the house across the street, then returning home to supervise the packing of the upstairs.  Off to have a shower and allow the hot water to totally relax me.

Thanks for stopping by.  Enjoy the moment.  Love your comments .. thank you so much.

Staff Party at Quinta de la Luz

Hello my Lovelies.  It was sunny and warm today ... so beautiful.  Hope you enjoyed your day wherever you were.

Packing will begin tomorrow ... along with many other unexpected events.  Pick up a tax document needed for closing, go to bank and get wiring instruction, eye Dr.'s appointment to pick up glasses and leave another pair.  None of these events were on my schedule this morning -- as always it gets a little hectic towards closing.  I'm doing my best to take one moment at a time and stay calm.  lol

We had a lovely day in the sun today.  A staff party.  Each one of these people have been with me for a long time, and I've grown very attached to every one of them and their families.  I will miss them terribly.  Among other things, they have taken care of my house while I'm away, kept my house sparkling clean each week, taken care of my yard and gardened, hauled paintings to and from the galleries and shows, taken me shopping and carried my heavy packages .... you name it.  We have become become part of a family and to a certain extent I feel responsible to support them not only in a monetary way, but in a personal loving way.

Thoroughly enjoyed the day.  Names don't really matter at this point.  They have all become part of my family in Mexico.  Here's some photos.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Hope life is treating you well and you are enjoying each moment.

The Owl and the Pussycat ....

Hello my Lovelies.  It is actually COLD here ... so hoping you are all cozy and warm.

Last year I did a series of "The Owl and the Pussycat", a poem I always adored when I was little and in fact still do.  The lines which say "And they took honey and plenty of money, wrapped up in a five pound note" were always a mystery to me as I simply could not understand how a note could weigh five pounds!

I am choosing the piece where the the are sitting on the beach having a picnic, by the light of the moon, and Owl is playing is guitar and singing to pussy.  Linking to Art Journal Journey, where the theme is "If music be the food of Love".  I think this piece fits perfectly.

The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
"O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Hope you are having a wonderful day and enjoying each moment.

There is Always Music in my Heart when You Are Feeling Sad ....

Good morning, my lovelies.  Nice to see you here.  Enjoy.

Not long after I arrived in San Miguel, what I refer to as "My Goddess Series" began to come through me.  I never knew what was going to turn up on the canvas, and each Goddess (or women of the ages) spoke to me and told me their story,  explaining to me in detail the symbolism they wanted in the painting.

Today, I will share with you "Keeper of the Faith" as she is carrying music in her heart.  I'll be linking to Art Journal Journey, where the theme is "If Music be the Food of Love".  This particular Goddess is simply brimming with love, as you will see when you read her story.  Here she is:

"Keeper of the Faith"  oil on canvas   Donna Parker

"I bring you light for the journey.  You will never be lost.  I bring you the strength of the oak tree when you feel weak.  I carry music in my heart especially for you, when you are feeling sad.  Listen and be comforted.  The moon and stars are already yours.  You need but to ask.  Quiet yourself and go deep within.  You will easily be able to hear the Universal voice which is within all of us.  The journey need not be difficult, for you carry the Keys to the Kingdom"

Thanks so much for dropping by, dear ones.  Today is all we have.  Enjoy each moment.

Dinner at Los Labradores

Greetings my Lovelies.  I'm sure, somewhere in this old world, you are making yourself a wonderful, creative day.

Last evening, I was invited to have dinner with friends of Kathleen and Ivan who are staying in a villa at Los Labradores, a development just outside of San Miguel.   When I first came to San Miguel and was thinking about staying, I looked at the houses being built and actually considered living there.  It has grown since then and is becoming quite a large development with different sizes of villas, all built in pods around water features.  Quite lovely, however, I did make the right choice in building where I am.  I have much more privacy, which I value.  The place does have it's pros though - in the country, lovely views  of the mountains from roof top terraces, a pool, gym and cafe, with regular transportation into San Miguel.

Judy  and her husband, Tom who prepared the lovely dinner owned a restaurant in Michigan, which they retired from a couple of years ago.  Judy still writes a column for the local paper, and was using the dinner she served us to entice her readers to have a Mexican Fiesta.  The enchaladas were heavenly, served with black beans and a salad.  For dessert? The most incredible flan I have ever tasted.  Rich in flavour and perfect in texture it was absolutely sublime. A wonderful evening was had by all.
